Here are the top three stories in The Haddams-Killingworth:
- Ramping up fundraising efforts, Pathfinders, Inc., a local nonprofit, is more determined than ever to purchase, preserve and protect the Deer Lake property in Killingworth, owned by the Connecticut Yankee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Pathfinders has launched a Save Deer Lake movement and reportedly found a like-minded supporter in Gov. Ned Lamont who said the state may provide additional support to keep property from being sold to a private developer. However, the deadline to “consider superior offers” on the property is fast approaching as May 1 is just around the corner. (HK Now)
- According to a press release put out by the Town of Haddam, the vote on the Regional School District No. 17 budget will be held on May 3. A copy of the proposed budget recommended for adoption by the district Board of Education is on file at the Haddam Town Clerk's Office. (Patch)
- Bad news for the nutmeg state and its fight again COVID-19. According to the latest data released by the Department of Public Health, the number of Connecticut towns on the highest level of alert for the coronavirus has more than doubled this week. Information gathered includes the fact that as of Thursday evening, 54 towns reside in the "red" zone, up 29 from last week's report and the virus claimed 14 more lives over the week in the state.
