  1. The towns of Haddam and Killingworth held a referendum on Tuesday, May 3, for the Regional School District #17 Education budget of $45,030,679.25 for the fiscal year beginning July 1. A yes or no question was asked to pass the budget or reject it? According to numbers recorded by HK Now, the vote resulted in 717 yeses and 506 nos. (HK Now)
  2. One person was hospitalized with burns after a house fire broke out in East Haddam on Gris Mill Road Tuesday evening around 7 p.m. A neighbor reportedly said that two people who live on the second floor of the home saved the man who lived on the first floor. (Patch)
  3. The first confirmed case of the rare tick-borne Powassan virus, which can be fatal, has been recorded in Connecticut for 2022. The Windham resident, who is in his 50s, is now recovering. (Patch)
