Here are the top three stories in The Haddams-Killingworth today:

  1. Now there is a lawsuit against the sale of Deer Lake and although it may not necessarily stop the sale of the property, it does mean that whoever the new owners of the property may be, they may have to deal with the lawsuit. David Stephenson from Madison has filed the lawsuit against the Connecticut Yankee Council. The suit reportedly states the Boy Scouts “…declared the Richard English Bird Sanctuary through publication and the installation of signage proclaiming the use,” and claims that public trust was established and the bird sanctuary must be maintained. Attorney Keith Ainsworth who represents Stephenson, said the sanctuary was established after Richard English, an ornithologist and philanthropist, donated a significant amount of money to the Boy Scouts in the mid-1908s and continues to provide support after his death in 2011.(WTNH.com)
  2. A part of Middletown's history goes on the market as the former home of Bobs Stores founder Robert J. Lapidus is up for sale. The home is situated on nearly four private acres on Maple Shade Road and is currently owned by the estate of Nihla M. Lapidus. The home is 3,500-square-feet with three bedrooms and three bathrooms and has an asking price is $635,000. (Patch)
  3. It's officially spring and it's time to get out and have fun! Looking for something to do this weekend in the nutmeg state? Here is a list of 25-plus things to do in Connecticut, April 29 - May 1. (Middletown Press)
