• Haddam Business Owner Charged In Workers' Compensation Case, Prosecutors Say (patch.com) — Haddam residents are learning that local builder Lou Milardo has been charged with failing to carry required workers’ compensation insurance for his companies, including Milardo Builders and J&L Milardo. After a Milardo Builders employee was seriously injured in 2021, the state’s Second Injury Fund paid more than $85,000 in benefits. Milardo was released on bond and is due in Middletown Superior Court in January.
   

• Historic Haddam Home From 1730s Destroyed in Fire That Killed Dog, Triggered Explosions (dailyvoice.com) — A historic 1730s home on Middlefield Road in Haddam was destroyed Friday when a fast-moving fire, likely starting in the basement, engulfed the structure and caused multiple explosions from a battery pack system. Firefighters tried to rescue a trapped dog but could not reach it in time, and Haddam’s deputy volunteer fire chief said the property is a total loss.
