Power Lines Downed On School Bus In Haddam: Fire Officials

Eversource crews had to secure the power and remove the power lines from the bus Wednesday afternoon.

HADDAM, CT — Thirteen students and a driver were on a school bus when wires came down on the vehicle, according to the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company.

Firefighters responded at 4:02 p.m. on a report of wires down on the bus on Maple Avenue in Higganum.

The students and driver and were told to remain in the bus.

Firefighters blocked a section of Maple Avenue West. Crews from Eversource arrived, secured the power, and removed the power line from the bus.

Once the area was deemed safe, the students were transported to a nearby road where they could meet their parents.

It was the third power line incident Wednesday, according to fire officials. A 3 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to Haddam Transfer Station on Saybrook Road for a reported pole fire.

At 3:20 p.m., firefighters responded Turkey Hill Road where a tree was leaning on wires and smoldering.
