EAST LYME, CT — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the East Lyme area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.
Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the East Lyme area:
1. Care and Share of East Lyme provides food, financial and emergency support to individuals and families in East Lyme, Niantic and Salem, Connecticut. Food donations are accepted on Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 12 Roxbury Road in Niantic.

2. Save the Kid Fund, Inc. provides an array of resources to children with disabilities. Through donations from the community, the organization is able to facilitate programs that cover medical expenses, therapies, adaptive bicycles and equipment.
3. Flanders Fire Department has provided service to the village of Flanders, part of the town of East Lyme, since 1946. As with most departments, the Flanders Fire Department has both paid and volunteer members and is always looking for new members.

4. East Lyme Food Pantry, located at St. John's Episcopal Church (400 Main Street) in Niantic, the pantry's goal is to give out three days' worth of food, including canned goods, packaged food, fresh produce, meat, eggs, dairy, bread and other grocery items.
5. East Lyme Youth Services mission is to foster the positive development of youth by providing and/or coordinating preventive, remediative, educational, social and service opportunities for young people and support for their families.
