Man Stalked, Threatened Victim Who Had No Connection To Him, East Lyme Police Say

A man is accused of stalking a victim for months and waiting outside the victim's home, police said.

EAST LYME, CT — A man is facing accusations that he stalked and threatened a victim in East Lyme, according to police.

Police responded Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. on a report of a disturbance on Fairhaven Road.

A man had parked his vehicle in a private driveway and began yelling at the victim and making threatening statements, according to police.

The victim called 911 and the suspect fled.

Police found the suspect and determined that he had been stalking the victim for months. He waited outside the victim's home, hoping to make contact with him.

The victim left his home, and police said the suspect confronted him. The suspect had a wooden baton on him, according to police.

"It should be noted that the victim and offender have no connection to each other," police said.

Macgregor Smith, 48, of Niantic, was taken into custody. He was charged with stalking, threatening, breach of peace, and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Smith was held on a $100,000 bond.
