Car Strikes 300-Lb. Bear In East Lyme Accident: Reports

The front end of a car crumpled when it struck a 300-lb. bear in East Lyme on Wednesday, according to reports.

EAST LYME, CT — A car hit a 300-lb. bear in East Lyme on Wednesday, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

The crash was reported at just after 5:30 p.m. on Chesterfield Road (Route 161). The Lexus that struck the bear had significant damage to its front end and the airbag deployed.

No humans were injured. The bear ran away into a nearby forest.

State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Conservation Police were called to help local police but were unable to locate the bear, according to The Day of New London.

The bear was estimated to weigh 300 lbs.

The collision was the first reported bear sighting in East Lyme this year, according to Hearst Connecticut.
