OLD LYME, CT — A passenger was seriously injured and a driver is facing charges following an accident in Old Lyme early Sunday morning, according to state police.

A 2019 Dodge Ram was driving south on Four Mile River Road at 2:08 a.m. The truck went off the road while attempting to negotiate a curve, struck a utility pole, then came to rest in an embankment.

A passenger was taken to a local hospital then transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver, Kelsey Velez, 30, of Derby, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain lane, and interfering with an officer.

She was held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Monday.
