East Lyme Student Wins National Merit Scholarship
An East Lyme student is one of over 2,600 high school seniors nationwide who were awarded college-sponsored scholarships.
EAST LYME, CT — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced its third round of 2022 scholarship winners, and a student from East Lyme made the list.
Students included in this round were chosen by officials at the college or university they plan to attend, and were picked from a list of 2022 National Merit Scholarship finalists who have enrolled in their institution.
Richard Chen, a senior at East Lyme High School who plans to study applied mathematics, was among the over 2,600 winners of college-financed National Merit Scholarships.

Chen won the University of Southern California Scholarship.
Though officials didn't specify the amount of money Chen will receive, the awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the school offering the scholarship.

The corporation's first round of winners, who received corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, was announced on April 27. The third and final round of Merit Scholarship winners — who will also be recipients of college-sponsored awards — will be announced on July 11.
