Invasive Plants, Cooking Tips, and Stormy Weather Ahead

Five things to help you plan your day, Wednesday, August 7, in East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme.

1. Our recent streak of perfect weather looks to be coming to an end. The day will start out sunny with a high temperature of 76 degrees and a low of 67 degrees, but weather.com is predicting that clouds will roll in bringing a 20 percent chance of rain during the day and a 40 percent chance of rain tonight. We could also see some scattered thunderstorms later tonight.

2. After having the Judy Collins show go on despite the rain, Bring Our Music Back is taking no chances with the Duke Ellington Band on Thursday. That concert will be held at the Garde Arts Center in New London, and it will also be the last event this season.

3. East Lyme Board of Selectmen meets at 7:30 p.m. This meeting will include discussions about bamboo (is it invasive, should it be banned from backyards?) and the Yale Outdoor Education Center Trail.

4. Lyme-Old Lyme Board of Education meets at the Lyme-Old Lyme High School Media Center at 6:30 p.m.

5. Hungry for cooking tips? Join former "Chopped" contestant Chef Chris Avtges at our live lunch chat today from noon to 12:45 p.m.
