Man Accused In Stolen Gun Case, East Lyme Police Say

Officers were investigating an assault and threatening with a firearm complaint when they found the stolen gun, according to police.

EAST LYME, CT — Police said they have arrested a man in connection to a stolen gun case.

Officers responded to a report of a stolen gun Aug. 26. Investigators learned a Sig P320 9mm handgun had been taken.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and the Southeastern Regional Special Response Team was activated due to the high risk of violence, police said.

Law enforcement searched the Montville home and found the stolen gun.

Akeem Morris, 47, of Montville, was taken into custody Wednesday. He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a dangerous weapon, fourth-degree larceny, and stealing a firearm.

Morris was held on a court set $30,000 bond.

"We would like to thank the Montville Police Department and the Southeastern Regional Special Response Team for their assistance in recovering the stolen firearm," the East Lyme Police Department wrote. "When criminals steal guns, communities pay, and when firearms are taken unlawfully, we respond with diligence, not indifference."
