Five things to help you plan your week in East Lyme, Old Lyme, and Lyme, August 19-24, 2013
1. We couldn't have asked for better weather for the Hamburg Fair over the weekend or for the surprise 60th birthday bash held for East Lyme First Selectman Paul Formica at McCook Point Park on Saturday. (Belated Happy Birthday, Paul!)
This week promises to be equally glorious. Weather.com is predicting mostly sunny skies through Friday with highs in the low to mid-80s and overnight lows of in the mid-60s. There's just a 10 percent chance of rain today, Thursday and Friday.
2. Tax-free shopping week started in Connecticut on Sunday. This is the week to get all those back to school supplies.
3. Municipal Meetings ...
In East Lyme Town Hall:
- Monday, Historic Properties Commission meets at 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, East Lyme Harbor Management/Shellfish Commission meets at 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, Board of Selectmen meeting 7:30 p.m.
- Monday, Lymes' Senior Center Board of Directors meets at 2 p.m. at the Senior Center; At Old Lyme Town Hall, Old Lyme Historical Society meets at 4 p.m., Flood and Erosion Control Board meets at 5:30 p.m., and Old Lyme Board of Selectmen meets at 7:30 p.m.
- Tuesday: Commission on Aging meets at 1 p.m. at Lymes' Senior Center; Sound View Improvement Committee meets at Town Hall at 5 p.m., Board of Finance meets at 7:30 p.m.
- Monday: Board of Selectmen meets at 3 p.m.; Cemetery Commission meets at 7 p.m.
- Tuesday: Recreation Commission meets at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday: Conservation and Inland Wetlands Commission meets at 7:30 p.m.;
5. ProTek Auto will be holding a concert this Friday night as part of its summer music series. The concerts are held at 7 p.m. on the Pro Tek stage on Main Street in downtown Niantic. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. All money goes to fund school music programs.
