Former Tolland High School Coach Leahy Named To CT Soccer Hall

A legendary soccer coach in Tolland has received a major state award.

TOLLAND, CT — Former Tolland High School boys soccer coach James Leahy has been elected to the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fames's Class of 2022.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for April 2 in North Haven.

Leahy coached the Eagles from 2006 to 2015 and won state Class M championships in 2009 and 2015 and compiled a record of 121-48-17. He was named the NSCAA Connecticut Small School Coach of the Year and Connecticut Soccer Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2015.

Before turning to high school coaching, Leahy was a four-year starter at Brandeis University from 1981 to 1984 and was a two-year captain for the Judges. Leahy recored 41 shutouts in 80 games and Brandeis had a third place finish in 1981 and a second-place finish in 1984 in the NCAA Division III tournament. He was named a Division III All New England performer in 1981 and 1984 Also in 1984, Leahy earned the Intercollegiate Goalkeeper of the Year Award.

Leahy was Awarded the 2019 Hugh S. Greer Distinguished Service Award by the Central Connecticut Soccer Officials Association and the 2019 UConn Soccer Outstanding Service Award. He was inducted into the Brandeis University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.

Last fall, Leahy did expert television commentary for all eight high school soccer finals at Dillon Stadium for NFHS Network.
