How Will Tolland's Proposed Budget Increase Affect Your Tax Bill?
The tax calculation form, available online for residents, was mentioned at the Tolland budget presentation Tuesday evening.

The town council presented Tolland's 2013-2014 budget on Tuesday, including an online tool which can help residents figure out how the proposed .94 percent increase will affect their tax bill.
The tax calculation form is available for use on the town website.
The $51,844,725 budget, which is heading to referendum on Tuesday, May 7, would raise the mill rate to 30.19.
According to the presentation this budget would:
- Increase taxes $24.39 for a house assessed at $121,972 in 2009. Total taxes:Â $3,682
- Increase taxes $39.23 for a house assessed at $196,130 in 2009. Total taxes: $5,921
- Increase taxes $75.08 for a house assessed at $375,384 in 2009. Total taxes: $11,333
Ken Kittredge, resident and member of Friends of Tolland Schools, said that the council should give a higher number to residents that better represents the town's needs, and then let the voters bring the number down.
"The referendum is supposed to be the process that finds a balance between the "yes" and "no" voters," Kittredge said. "It shouldn't be your job to decide what the public can afford."
Resident Pat Curylo spoke for a lower budget number.
"My husband and IÂ represent the silent majority. We're tired of coming to these meetings and being the people shot down for saying that we can't afford this," she said. "It doesn't mean that we don't support our public education. We also support our town but that doesn't mean we can support these increases."
A breakdown of the 2013-2014 budget can be found on the Town of Tolland website.
The referendum will take place on May 7 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
