Is the Pepsi MAX Ad With Jeff Gordon Funny? How to Pay for College at Tolland Library, Chilly Weather
Here are five things going on in the area today.

Good morning, Tolland! Today is Thursday, March 14, 2013; there are 292 days left in the year.
Hey guys, check out this guerrilla ad by Pepsi in which Jeff Gordon disguises himself and takes a (supposedly) unsuspecting used car salesman for a joy ride.
At first, I laughed at it.
Maybe I’m being a nervous nellie, but if that video is real, is anyone like me and worrying that the guy could have a heart attack? What would happen then?
Again, maybe I’m just being a stick in the mud. But there is a fine line between fun and dangerous, and I’m not talking about whether Gordon would lose control of the car.
Here’s your Daily 5:
1. Do not put the jacket away. The National Weather Service says to expect temperatures in the mid-30s today.
2. A Hartford financial adviser will discuss “How to Pay for College” April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tolland Public Library. The Tolland Public Library Foundation is hosting the talk by Craig Breitsprecher at the library at 21 Tolland Green as part of its “Year of the Young Adult” initiative. Breitsprecher, an associate with the Hartford branch of LPL Financial, will discuss how the financial aid system works, some common pitfalls to avoid, the primary sources of college funds, the intricacies of education loans, the current market outlook and where to invest for college.
3. The Tolland Public Library will hold its next book discussion for young
adults on The Red Pyramid, volume 1 of Rick Riordan's The Kane
Chronicles. The discussion, suggested for grades 5 and up, will meet on: Thursday, April 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the library. Readers may sign up and pick up a copy of the book at the library circulation desk; fans of the series who have already read the book are invited to come to the discussion too! Inquiries may be directed to Mrs. Brousseau at: vbrousseau@tolland.org.
4. Here's a reminder that due to the snowstorm last week, residents who did not have their trash and/or recycling picked up last Friday will be picked up this Friday on their normal day. If you have extra bags, you may place them near your tote and Willimantic Waste will pick them up also.
5. Conserving Tolland and the Tolland Historical Society are co-hosting an event on March 14 about the Old Connecticut Path. Jason Newton will be the speaker. The event is slated for 7 p.m. at the Lodge at Crandall Park II.
