No Jokes Today, Tolland Town Council Budget Workshop, Library Book Discussion

Here are five things going on in the area today.

Good morning, Tolland. Today is Wednesday, March 13, 2013; there are 293 days left in the year.

No jokes today in light of the tragedy involving East Hartford police officer Ron Buchanan, who was a resident of South Windsor.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Buchanan, his family, friends and fellow officers.

Here’s your Daily 5:

1. The National Weather Service says to expect a mostly Sunny day on Wednesday with temperatures in the low 50s. However, there is a slight chance a snow shower can sneak its way into town overnight.

2. The Tolland Public Library will hold its next book discussion for young
adults on "The Red Pyramid," volume 1 of Rick Riordan's "The Kane
Chronicles." The discussion, suggested for grades 5 and up, will
meet on Thursday, April 4, from 6 to 7 pm at the library. Readers may sign up and pick up a copy of the book at the library circulation desk; fans of the series who have already read the book are invited to come to the discussion too!  Inquiries may be directed to Mrs. Brousseau at: vbrousseau@tolland.org.

3. Just a reminder, residents who did not have their trash and/or recycling picked up last Friday will be picked up this Friday on their normal day. If you have extra bags, you may place them near your tote and Willimantic Waste will pick them.

4. A Town Council budget workshop is scheduled for March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hicks Municipal Center. The planning and community development account is on the agenda.

5. Accounts for public works, the capital improvement budget and the solid waste budget will be discussed at a budget workshop scheduled for March 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hicks Center.
