Route 74 Bridge In Tolland Slated For Re-Opening Next Week

TOLLAND, CT — Connecticut Department of Transportation officials Tuesday said the re-opening the of the Route 74 bridge over the Skungamaug River is planned for Aug. 6.

The bridge is located near the Route 74-Skungamaug Road intersection. The bridge was closed on May 6 and the re-opening date represents two days earlier than the original estimated opening.

"The road opening signifies a substantial milestone on the project associated with a bridge replacement carrying Route 74 over the Skungamaug River," DOT officials said.

Officially dubbed CTDOT Project No. 0142-0152, the work for a new bridge to replace the aging span was awarded to ROTHA Contracting Company, Inc. at a cost of $4,779,424.50 on Aug. 16, 2023.

After the opening, motorists can expect one-way alternating traffic until the remaining construction and utility work activities are completed, DOT officials said. The lane closures may occur Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the DOT.
