The Senior Variety Show: A Tolland Tradition

The will be putting on its  this Friday, April 27.

Senior Center Director Fran Weigand said that the variety show tradition started back in 1989 as a "dinner and a show" program held in the .

Weigand explained that the show was originally created to highlight the role of the senior center in Tolland. 

"I dreamed about pulling together the community and showing them what the senior center can do," she said. "And now I think everyone gets excited when they see that the senior show is this Friday. I really feel like that dream has been realized."

Weigand also acknowledged the generosity of the high school, which hosts the show, and students, who assist with the technical aspects of the event.

"The high school has been so generous in letting us use the high school, and the custodial staff and the students who run the tech equipment have been wonderful and support the show year after year," she said.

While the dinner portion of the event has been removed, the variety show has been amped up and features performances from the senior center chorus, "The Notables," as well as other local and non-local talent.

This year's show, starting at 7 p.m. at Tolland High School, will also include performances from magician Tom O'Brien and duo Bobby Darling and Dr. Divine. 

Tickets are $5, and all money raised from the show supports the senior center.
