Tolland Fire Department Offering 'Stop the Bleed' Training

TOLLAND, CT — The Tolland Fire Department is presenting a free "Stop the Bleed" training this week.
The premise is, "with 3 quick actions, you can be trained to save a life."
"The Number cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. That's why we want to train you how to stop the bleed," fire officials said.

The course is scheduled for Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Tolland Fire Department Training Center, 191 Merrow Road.

"Stop the Bleed" is a national campaign designed to give everyday citizens with no medical training, the tools to recognize and respond to life threatening bleeding while trained professionals are on the way.
Participants will learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out:
- How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound;
- How to pack a wound to control bleeding;
- How to correctly apply a tourniquet.
