Water Main Flushing Set To Begin In Tolland

TOLLAND, CT — The Town water mains will be flushed between April 28 and May 2 and from May 5 to 7.

Flushing will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The flushing is performed to remove both air and naturally occurring minerals from the mains, helping to maintain and improve water quality, town officials said.

During the process, residents could experience lower than normal water pressure and water

may be discolored for a day or two following the flushing. The discoloration is caused by minerals and sediment in the water and is not harmful. However, it may stain clothes if you do laundry. Avoid using washing machines, dishwashers or other water-using devices during flushing operations.

Any sediment that enters the home piping will normally be flushed out in a day or two. Faucet aerators can trap sediment. Kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators can be unscrewed and rinsed to remove the trapped sediment.
