WINDSOR, CT — State police said they caught two Vernon men trying to steal highway signage on Interstate 91.

According to an arrest report, the incident took place at 9:29 Wednesday morning on the northbound side of the highway near Exit 37 in Windsor. A Department of Transportation sign warning drivers of an upcoming exit was in plain view, loaded onto a white, dented-up pickup truck, according to an image accompanying the arrest report.

Other signs appeared in the photo to be layered underneath the exit warning sign.

State police arrested Jonathan Riopelle, 46, and Andrew Lampkin, 42, both of Vernon.

Each was charged with third-degree larceny, reckless use of highway by a pedestrian, and improper parking on a highway.

The two posted $500 bonds and are scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Nov. 21, records show.
