Woman Who Fell Through Ice On Lake In Vernon Recovering: Police

A woman was rushed to an area hospital on Christmas Day after falling through some ice on Bolton Lake in Vernon, police said.

VERNON, CT — The woman who fell through a section of ice on Bolton Lake on Christmas Day was in stable condition in Hartford Hospital Thursday, Vernon Police said.

At 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Vernon Police Department received a call about a person who had fallen into Bolton Lake near 55 Lynwood Drive next to the Middle Bolton Lake Spillway, according to an incident report. Police officers, firefighters and an emergency medical crew located a woman in her 50s who had fallen through a section of ice, according to an incident report.

Morning air temperatures were in the teens.

Life saving measures were performed at the scene, police said. Life Star helicopter was also requested to the scene and the woman was eventually transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment, according to an incident report. Police checked on her Thursday morning and she was listed in stable condition, department spokesman Lt. Robert Marra said.

Vernon police are warning residents to use caution when going out on the ice on a pond or lake.
