200 Gallons Of Acid Spilled At Facility In Wallingford

Emergency crews responded to a chemical leak at a business, according to officials.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Approximately 200 gallons of phosphoric acid was spilled at a business in Wallingford on Friday morning, according to officials.

The Wallingford Fire Department responded around 11:25 a.m. to 4 Northrop Industrial Park West on the report of a chemical leak, according to a news release.

Officials said the leaking product was identified as phosphoric acid, and was estimated to be approximately 200 gallons.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is also at the scene, according to officials.

“The New Haven Area Special Hazards (NHASH) team has also been consulted, but at this time the operation is being handled by Wallingford Fire and CT DEEP personnel under the direction of Battalion Chief Kris Sundwall,” according to a news release from the Wallingford Fire Department. “Units working at the scene include Car 4, Engine 3, Engine 7, Truck 1, Medic 1 and Medic 3. Wallingford firefighters also manned a call back engine during this incident to cover town wide call volume while on scene personnel were committed to mitigating the hazmat incident.”

Officials said no serious injuries have been reported, and all chemicals were contained within the facility.

The investigation and cleanup is ongoing, and is being coordinated by the CT DEEP, according to officials.
