Allnex's Environmental Speaker Series Featured Birds of Prey

From Alllnex: Allnex recently hosted the third workshop in its Environmental Speaker Series, which featured birds of prey from A Place Called Hope – a non-profit raptor rehabilitation and education center located in Killingworth, Conn.

Workshop attendees learned more about birds that visited including American Kestrel, Eastern Screech Owl, Barred Owl and Red Tailed Hawk. Interestingly there are 10 different bird of prey families and our state plays home to eight of those different families including hawks, owls, falcons, osprey eagles, harriers, barn owls, and Mississippi kites. The most common daytime raptor is the Red Tailed Hawk and the most common nocturnal species is the barred owl.

Wallingford’s Economic Development Specialist Tim Ryan, who attended the event with his two granddaughters, felt that the workshop was fun and informative. “You’re never too old or too young to become intrigued,” Ryan said.

In addition to learning about and viewing the birds of prey, attendees also enjoyed hands-on activities presented by the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Kellogg Environmental Center. The activities focused on how to take care of the environment and protect natural habitats.

Through its Environmental Speaker Series, allnex aimed to inspire local business leaders and residents to reduce their environmental footprint and create environmental awareness.
