Popular Restaurant Could Be Demolished For New Business In Wallingford: Reports

The popular restaurant's days could be coming to an end as the landlord looks to build a new drive-thru coffee chain franchise at the spot.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A popular seafood restaurant’s days may be coming to an end in Wallingford, according to multiple reports.

The Hartford Business Journal reports the property owner of the Captain Seas restaurant at 905 North Colony Road (Route 5) plans to demolish the existing building and replace it with a 7 Brew location, a new national drive-thru coffee franchise.

7 Brew is a drive-thru only coffee shop with more than 190 stands nationwide, but none in New England, according to its website.

“7 Brew is so much more than just a coffee stand,” a post on its website states. “It’s the concept of cultivating kindness and joy with every drink – through our service, speed, quality, energy and atmosphere. It’s contagious and it’s changing the drive-thru coffee industry.”

The plan requires a special permit and the approval of the Planning and Zoning Commission, which will hold a public hearing on the proposal.

The item on the agenda lists a special permit request for “Kapoor to demolish an existing building and construct a new drive through coffee restaurant located at 905 North Colony Road – RF-40 (Route Five) District.” (Update: the item, and several others, were removed from the public hearing agenda at Wednesday's meeting)

Captain Seas owner Fani Manos previously told the Record-Journal that her 15-year lease on the property expires next month, and they are looking for another place to establish the business as the property owner has other plans for the existing site.

The Hartford Business Journal reported Monday that Larry Merriam, the manager of the company that owns the property, said he helped Manos and her husband look for a new location for the restaurant, but “it was just not possible. She’s going to close the business.”
