Obituary: Jean C. Coté, 102, of Wallingford

Jean proudly served in Navy, before working as a physical science assistant. She also dedicated many years as a nurse at Gaylord Hospital.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Jean C. Coté, 102, of Wallingford, passed away February 21, 2022 at Masonicare.

She was born in New Haven on November 17, 1919, a daughter of the late Arthur and Aurora (Morin) Coté.

She was educated in Wallingford Schools graduating from Lyman Hall High School and the Hartford Art School which is now part of the University of Hartford.

She served in the United States Navy as a WAVE and her illustration experience contributed to varied technical instructions for Navy personnel.

After being discharged at the end of World War II, she was located at the Naval Weapons Station in Inyokern, CA, in the Mohave Desert and was employed as a Physical Science Assistant where her illustrations of rocket trajectory were published for naval research.

She retired from Gaylord Hospital as a nursing assistant where she worked for several years, and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wallingford.

She is survived by her niece, Mary Pohl and her husband William; her nephews, Robert Donald and his wife Barbara, and Paul Bellows; and several great nieces and great nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Mabel Donald and her husband Robert, Irene Coté Szad, and Aurora Coté Bellows and her husband Nicola; and her nephew, Arthur Bellows.

Interment in the State Veterans’ Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford.
