Obituary: John “Butch” Sandillo, 74, of Wallingford

Butch, known as a true gentleman with a big heart, worked as a machinist many years for Marlin Firearms and Nicholsons.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) John “Butch” Sandillo, 74, of Wallingford, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at MidState Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was just shy of his 75th birthday. He was the loving husband of Lynn (Cleto) Sandillo.

Butch was born in New Haven, March 10, 1947, a son of the late John Sandillo Jr. and the late Ida (Selvaggi) Sandillo Haman.

Butch was employed as a machinist for Marlin Firearms and later by Nicholsons.

Butch was brought up to be a gentleman and his memory was a vault of information. He enjoyed recalling childhood stories of racing his ’63 Chevy to fond memories of fishing with his pals on opening day.

Butch was a champion Darts player who won many tournaments and was featured on a darts magazine cover. Butch could often be found relaxing in his recliner watching TV shows and musicals which he knew all of the words or rooting for the Green Bay Packers and the NY Yankees. He was a Civil War History buff and knew everything about airplanes, boats and guns.

Butch was a big man with even a bigger heart who was known by all to be thoughtful, compassionate, generous and most of all, kind.

In addition to his devoted wife Lynn, he is survived by his son, Michael Sandillo (Traci); his daughter Wendy Sandillo (Rick); his step daughter, Ashley Pacileo; his grandchildren whom referred to him as “Nunu”, Michael Sandillo Jr., Taylor Sandillo, Kailey Carpenter and Gianna Sandillo Nastri; several special cousins, many dear friends including his childhood friend Frank whom he spoke with daily and also his beloved cat, Molly.

He was predeceased by his brother, Salvatore Sandillo who he loved and admired greatly.
His family would like to thank the staff of MidState Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, March 11th from 4 to 7 pm.

An opportunity for eulogies and to share memories of butch will be held at 6:30pm.
