Open Burning Banned In Wallingford: Fire Department

All open burning is prohibited within the Town of Wallingford until further notice, officials announced.

WALLINGFORD, CT — An Emergency Burn Ban is now in effect for all Connecticut State Parks, Forests, and Wildlife Management areas, prohibiting the use of all outdoor grills, firepits and campfires, kindling and use of flame outdoors.

Due to extremely dry conditions and elevated fire danger risk reported through CT DEEP, all open burning is prohibited within the Town of Wallingford until further notice.

Open burning shall cease immediately. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Use of outdoor grilling
  • Use of outdoor firepits
  • Live Fire Training for firefighters

Open Burn Permits issued through the Fire Prevention Division, even though previously or currently approved, are not valid at this time. Open Burn Permits will not be issued until the fire danger risk is reduced to Medium or Low risk conditions.

Residents are reminded that the burning of garbage, paper, grass, metals, plastics, leaves, rubber, painted materials or demolition waste is prohibited in accordance with Chapter 93, Burning, Open, contained within the Code of Wallingford.

Additionally, residents are asked to exercise extreme caution, especially when disposing of smoking materials outdoors.

We are asking for the cooperation of our residents to work together with our fire department to protect and ensure the safety of our town.
