Popular Wallingford Restaurant Wins National PETA Award For Best Breakfast Sandwich

The restaurant made the list of PETA's picks for the nation's best breakfast sandwich, the organization announced this week.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Popular Wallingford restaurant The Eatery has won a national PETA award for best breakfast sandwich, the organization announced this week.

The Eatery of WLFD made the list of PETA’s picks for the nation’s Top Eggsellent Vegan Breakfast Sandwiches—and Wallingford’s own The Eatery of WLFD has made the list.

The restaurant’s “delectable Vegan Breakfast Wrap features turmeric tofu scramble, savory vegan sausage, dairy-free cheese, spinach, roasted homefries, and gochujang ketchup all wrapped up and grilled to perfection,” according to a news release from PETA.

“The Eatery of WLFD has created a cracking good sandwich that’s kind to chickens and their customers’ arteries, and bursting with flavor,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement. “Every winner on PETA’s awards list shows that delicious vegan eggs can start your day right in every way.”

The Eatery of WLFD is located at 65 South Colony St. in Wallingford, and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Eatery of WLFD will receive a framed award certificate from PETA along with bragging rights. Other winners include the Breakfast Sandwich at Huriyali in Charleston, South Carolina; the Renedict at Bouldin Creek Cafe in Austin, Texas; the Smoky Chipotle Bacon & Egg Sandwich at Coco Bistro & Bar in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; the Breakfast Sandwich at Rascal’s Vegan in Santa Barbara, California; the Bac’n, Egg and Cheese Biscuit at Lucky Goose in Albuquerque, New Mexico; the Breakfast Sandwich at Allegro Bakery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and the Venetian Breakfast Bagel Sandwich at Hollycake House in East Rochester, New York.
