Wallingford Businesses Cited In Alcohol Compliance Checks

WALLINGFORD, CT — Eight Wallingford businesses were cited for illegally selling alcohol products to anyone under the age of 21 during compliance checks on Thursday, according to police.

Officers from the Wallingford Police Department’s Community Impact Unit, along with special agents from the Liquor Control of Connecticut Consumer Protection Division, conducted unannounced compliance inspections of establishments that sell alcohol products.

“The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of alcohol products to youth under the age of 21,” police wrote in a news release. “Establishments must verify patrons’ ages using valid government-issued IDs with a photograph and date of birth.”

Eight businesses out of 21 unannounced compliance inspections were found non-compliant with Connecticut General Statutes Section 30-86(b) Sale to minor and Section 30-6-A9 Permittee accountable for actions of employee and/or Sec. 30-6-A24(f) Conduct of permit premises/Permittee strictly accountable, according to police.

“Non-compliant compliance inspection results are referred for administrative action which often includes a fine and temporary suspension of the establishment’s liquor license,” police wrote.

The following retailers were found to be non-compliant, which police said sold alcohol to a minor:

1. Aldi; 1248 South Broad St.

2. Corner Market; 156 Center St.

3. The Liquor Mart; 612 South Colony Rd.

4. Yalesville Package Store; 413 Main St.

5. Wine Cellar Outlet, 42 Capital Dr.

6. Empire Wine and Spirits; 1145 North Colony Rd.

7. Discount Wine and Spirit; 71 North Turnpike Rd.

8. Colony Wine and Spirits; 41 North Colony Rd.

The following retailers were found to be compliant; which did not sell alcohol to a minor:

1. Sala’s; 200 East Main St.

2. Goodrich’s Package Store; 321 Quinnipiac St.

3. CT Beverage Mart; 1070 North Colony Rd.

4. East Side Spirit Shoppe; 825 East Center St.

5. Ives Road Wine and Spirits; 20 Ives Rd.

6. A and D Package Store; 38 South Turnpike Rd.

7. One Stop Liquor; 1056 South Colony Rd.

8. Wally Wine and Spirit; 71 Quinnipiac St.

9. West Side Wine and Spirit; 8 Hope Hill Rd.

10. Wallingford Wine and Spirit; 600 North Colony Rd.

11. Dragonfly Wine and Spirit; 384 Center St.

12. East Coast Wine and Spirits; 994 North Colony Rd.

13. Whiskey Wine Mart; 736 North Colony Rd.
