WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford eatery has landed a spot on PETA’s list of the top vegan chili dishes in the country.
Arles & Boggs Vegan Eatery, at 100 Quinnipiac St., is one of only six restaurants in the country to be included in the list.
To celebrate the start of fall, officials said PETA “scoured the country for the best and heartiest vegan chili dishes.”

Arles & Boggs Vegan Eatery landed a spot on the list for its chili that is made with three types of beans, seasoned with chipotle peppers, and topped with dairy-free garlic sour cream, fresh pico de gallo, a squeeze of lime, and crispy tortilla chips, according to a news release.
“Chili is the ultimate comfort food, and this smoky, spicy bowl comes with the comforting thought that no animals were harmed to make it,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement. “PETA celebrates Arles & Boggs for helping people tuck into their favorite foods without the cruelty or the cholesterol.”

Other honorees include Plant Bae in Montgomery, Alabama; The Social Vegan in Lexington, Kentucky; House of Leaf & Bean in Jacksonville, Florida; The Grit in Athens, Georgia; and Ben’s Chili Bowl in Washington, D.C. Each eatery will receive a framed certificate from PETA, which offers many vegan chili recipes on its website.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—notes that vegan meat sales increased 148 percent in 2020 compared to the year before and that 47 percent of Americans want to incorporate more vegan foods into their meals in 2021.
