Donna Regan, Board of Education Member
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Yes, Elected to Wallingford Town Council in 2023
Why are you seeking this office?
I am seeking re-election to the Wallingford Town Council because I am committed to addressing critical issues like addiction recovery and veterans' homelessness while maintaining a fiscally conservative approach that emphasizes fiscal responsibility and efficient use of tax dollars to drive economic growth without overburdening residents. As a lifelong Wallingford resident who has raised my family here for over 25 years, a Marine Corps veteran, and CEO of a multi-billion dollar IT infrastructure company for over 28 years, I bring extensive business experience to deliver data-driven efficiencies and attract businesses to expand our tax base. I believe government should be smaller and less involved in people's lives, prioritizing limited government and individual liberty. By continuing to serve, I aim to apply my principles of honesty, integrity, and innovative problem-solving, honed through decades of business leadership, to strengthen our community while maintaining respect and collaboration across all parties.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
the property tax burden. I will continue to advocate for a fiscally conservative approach that prioritizes efficient use of tax dollars, data-driven budget cuts where possible, and strategies to attract new businesses to expand the tax base. This aligns with my commitment to smaller government and limited involvement in people's lives, ensuring long-term fiscal responsibility while addressing critical community needs like schools and housing.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
The major differences between me and the other candidates for Wallingford Town Council lie in my unwavering commitment to fiscal conservatism and limited government, contrasted with the Democratic slate's emphasis on expanding public spending. Some candidates advocate for "reasonable and equitable" tax burden sharing. My record as an incumbent demonstrates collaborative integrity across parties to deliver results, not just promises of "vibrancy" or "affordability" that often lead to higher costs for families.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Economic Development and Job Creation: attract businesses and foster job growth, expanding the tax base to fund essential services without increasing costs for residents. This includes streamlining permitting processes and promoting Wallingford as a business-friendly community.
Infrastructure and Public Safety: I will prioritize efficient allocation of resources to maintain and upgrade critical infrastructure, such as roads and public utilities, while ensuring robust funding for police and fire services to keep our community safe. My focus is on cost-effective solutions that avoid wasteful spending.
Education and Community Services: While supporting our schools, I will advocate for fiscal discipline to address underperforming rankings without resorting to tax hikes, focusing on targeted investments in education and programs like addiction recovery and veterans' homelessness that deliver measurable results.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
My accomplishments that demonstrate my ability to continue my Wallingford Town Council role include:
Proven Leadership as CEO: A core part of my skill sets are in driving growth, implementing data-driven efficiencies, and managing complex budgets while navigating uncertain times and challenging economic conditions. These skills enable me to deliver fiscal responsibility and foster economic development in Wallingford.
Effective Council Tenure: As an incumbent Town Councilor, I’ve collaborated across party lines to advance practical solutions, such as optimizing municipal budgets and supporting policies that address addiction recovery and veterans’ homelessness without increasing taxes.
Military Service and Community Commitment: As a Marine Corps veteran and lifelong Wallingford resident who raised my family here for over 25 years, I’ve demonstrated passion, dedication, and fierce discipline in all aspects of my personal and private life.
These experiences highlight my ability to lead with fiscal conservatism, innovate solutions, and serve Wallingford with integrity.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
The best thing that you can give to your children are roots and wings.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
My campaign promise from my first term was to donate 100% of my town council salary to local non for profit organizations. I have filled that obligation, matched it 100% with personal funds, and will continue to do so during my second term.
