Occupation:
Psychologist of 3.5 years.
Family:
I have been married to my wonderful and supportive wife for just over four years. We sadly lost our first dog (a rescue, Tanna) this past May, so our family is a bit smaller now.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
No
Why are you seeking this office?
I am seeking this office to restore hope to our community. Wallingford has been bogged down by complacency and decay. Fresh ideas and cooperation across the board is what our town and its children deserve.
The effects of not properly caring for our schools either lead families to leave the community, or choose not to move here in the first place.
I am confident that a cohesive group can be committed to ensuring that our schools get the attention they deserve, which will raise the spirits of our children and allow them to feel hope in making their future in Wallingford something to look forward to.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
a strained education budget that leads to pitting building maintenance against educational services. With the power of working-class people entrusting their children's futures in me, I will be a fighter for preventing the continued backslide of our learning conditions and ensuring other elected officials who control the budget know how their decisions affect our community's children.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
It is obvious that I am a newcomer and several incumbents are running. All who have served on the board clearly have given their hearts and minds to this community. However, their efforts have continued to be stymied and it can be easy to feel disempowered when you feel you have done everything right. New energy and ideas would be useful to reinvigorate those with whom I would be proud to call fellow board members.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
The effects on the working-class families of Wallingford when it comes to housing and transportation.
I love that we have public transit options, but seeing uncovered bus stops, oftentimes with no seating, and a strong connection to our train station need to be addressed. Even if I have no official power to make the change, I will continue to advocate for making working-class families have an easier time living in this gem of a town. Wallingford has serious potential. The people here have learned to make due, but it is imperative on state and local government to make people's lives easier.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Working as a psychologist requires being able to meet people where they are, to listen, have empathy, and empower others in having a say in their lives. I could not possibly have lived every one of my clients' experiences, but my compassion and curiosity lead people to feeling heard and enthusiastic.
Working in several group settings throughout my training has allowed me to step back when I know others have the chance to make change, and to step up when saying what is needed to be said.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
There are enough people in this world who either don't know, believe, or care about what you do. You don't need to be another one for yourself.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Our slate this year from top to bottom is committed to working together with anyone elected to get things done in this town. We are all excited to make much needed change for a vibrant and thriving town that is welcoming to all who are blessed enough to visit or call this place home.
