“I am excited to continue my professional journey at Quinnipiac under my new title,” Bau said. “This new role is really the culmination of all I’ve done before coming to Quinnipiac. In many ways it’s just formalizing what I’ve been doing for years.”

Bau joined Quinnipiac in 2019 as director of career development. Prior to QU, he worked in career development at Yale University and the University of Connecticut.

Bau holds a bachelor’s in communications from James Madison University and a master’s in communications from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

“John Bau's appointment as assistant dean is both well-deserved and long overdue,” said Taskin Kocak, dean of the School of Computing and Engineering. “We have full confidence in his abilities, as he has already been performing much of the duties of this role with exceptional dedication and skill.”

In addition to his impressive career, Bau has held several notable positions, including serving as the immediate past president of the Connecticut Career Consortium, the state’s association of career development professionals, and as a member of the board of directors for the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce, representing the university.

He is also an active member of the American Society for Engineering Education, where he presents regularly at their annual Conference for Industry & Education Collaboration. Bau shepherded a Quinnipiac student to be named the 2023 National Engineering Internship Student of the Year by the ASEE and is recognized as a Connecticut Manufacturing Ambassador.

In his new role as assistant dean, Bau will continue to oversee career development while expanding his responsibilities to include more comprehensive support for student engagement and academic success. His leadership will be instrumental in enhancing the school’s initiatives to prepare students for the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

“I was hired to lead career development for the school, but I love working with our students in all aspects of their growth outside the classroom – engaging with undergraduate admissions to help tell our story to prospective Bobcats, coordinating with student clubs and organizations, and building bridges between students and employers for networking, senior design projects and jobs and internships, too,” Bau added.
