High School Grapplers From West Hartford Win CIAC Divisional Titles

TRUMBULL/WILTON, CT — A pair of high school grapplers from West Hartford turned in championship performances at the CIAC divisional wrestling meets Saturday.

In the Class LL championships at Trumbull High School, Michael Ortiz of Hall scored a 15-0 technical fall over Seamus Brannigan of Staples to win the 120 lb. division. Jonathan Wright-Goodison (165) and Luke Abbatemarco (285) placed second, enabling the Titans to compile 94 points, good for 11th place among the 26 teams which scored.

The Class L meet at Wilton High School found Harry Marino of Conard posting a 12-2 major decision win over Derek McMahon of Middletown at 144 lbs. Three other Red Wolves were placewinners, enabling the team to tie for seventh with 108 points .

The State Open is scheduled for Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
