Raised crosswalks are different from traditional ones in that they are not on the same level as the street.
Acting as much like speed bumps as anything else, the raised crosswalks "help control speed, increase pedestrian visibility, and make pedestrian crossing safer for everyone," according to the town.
The raised crosswalk push is part of the town's Vision Zero initiative that aims for zero fatal/serious-injury crashes in West Hartford.
