Students At Northwest Catholic High Named 'Summar Scholars'

The annual award honors students at Catholic high schools in the region who "committed significant time, energy and care" to academics.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Five Northwest Catholic High School students were recently named Summar Scholars in an annual awards ceremony hosted by the University of Saint Joseph.

The ceremony recognized students at Catholic high schools within the Archdiocese of Hartford who scored in the top 5 percent of their classes and "committed significant time, energy and care in the pursuit of superior academic achievement."

Each Summar Scholar was given an opportunity during the May 17 ceremony to recognize a teacher who inspired and helped them, officials said.

Superintendent of Catholic Schools Valerie Mara, USJ President Rhona Free and Vicar for the Archdiocese's Center for Catholic Education and Formation Rev. Michael Whyte spoke as well.

Students from St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol, Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden, East Catholic High School in Manchester, The Academy of Our Lady Mercy, Lauralton Hall in Milford, Holy Cross High School in Waterbury and Notre Dame High School in West Haven were also named Summar Scholars.
