West Hartford Athletes on Campus: Binkhorst's Double-Double Leads Bowdoin to Victory

A weekly roundup of the best from former West Hartford scholastic athletes who are now playing in college.

Sara Binkhorst (Hall High ‘11), a junior on the Bowdoin College women’s basketball team, scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 76-40 victory over Bates on Nov. 23. Binkhorst, a guard, averaging 7.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 3 apg and 1.5 spg. The former Hall High standout has helped the Polar Bears get off to a 4-0 start to the season. … Keith Gagnon (Conard High ‘11) is a junior on the WPI men’s swimming and diving team. He is listed as a distance swimmer. … Lucas Muntz (Conard High ‘13) is a freshman on the WPI wrestling team. … Greg Youngstrom (Conard High ‘12), a sophomore on the Keene State men’s swimming and diving team, was a double-winner in a meet against Tufts on Nov. 23, topping the field in the 50 free (21.57) and 100 free (48.70). He also was a member of the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams. His performance propelled the Owls to a 178-122 victory. The 6-1 Owls were ranked 6th in the CSCAA ratings. … West Hartford resident Tully Hannan, a senior on the Bates College men’s cross country team, placed 37th out of 275 runners at the NCAA Division III Championships on Nov. 23. His performance helped Bates tie for 24th at the meet. … Emily Corrales (Conard High ‘13), a first-year on the University of New England women’s ice hockey team, assisted on a goal in a 4-3 overtime victory over Sacred Heart on Nov. 23. She also had a goal and an assist on a 4-4 tie with Sacred Heart on Nov. 22. On the year, Corrales has three goals and two assists, and is tied for the team lead with five points. The Nor’easters are 3-3-3 on the year. … Jessie Ustjanauskas (Hall High ‘12), a sophomore on the William & Mary women’s swimming and diving team, placed fourth in the 200 fly at the Hokie Invitational on Nov. 23. Her time of 2:03.12 was the 10th fastest in school history.
