The CT Lottery reported Wednesday that a local barrista "brewed over with excitement" after learning that she had won a top prize in the "Blackjack Supreme" game.
According to a news release from the CT Lottery, Barbara Blanchfield of West Hartford, a Starbucks barista, purchased her winning ticket at Fairlawn Package Store at 101 Park Road in West Hartford on her way home from an early morning shift.
“After work, I stopped to buy some scratch tickets and I won $50,000!” Blanchfield told lottery officials according to the release.
Blanchfield had a winning hand on her Blackjack Supreme ticket, which awarded her one of the game's top $50,000 prizes – which lottery officials said is valued at $34,151 after taxes.
“I really didn’t believe what I was seeing at first … I’ve never won anything like this before!” she told lottery officials. “I don’t have any plans yet for the prize money…it still needs to sink in. Maybe, I’ll go on a little shopping spree.”
Fairlawn Package Store will receive a $500 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
According to the release, the overall chances of winning a prize in the $5 instant game Blackjack Supreme are 1 in 3.74. Of the 4 top prizes in the game, 2 remain to be claimed.
