West Hartford Distributing N95 Masks On Wednesday

The town received 230,000 adult N95 masks from the state last week. Here's how to get one.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town of West Hartford received 230,000 adult N95 masks from the state last week, and on Wednesday it will make them available to residents.

Officials will distribute the masks on Feb. 16 from 1-4 p.m. at 100 Mayflower St. (location of the former St. Brigid-St. Augustine Partnership School). Attendees should stay in their car and follow signs to the distribution.

"DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY," the town said in an announcement. "We have plenty of masks for everyone."

Any resident who needs accommodations to get the masks due to a disability can call the town's Office of Emergency Management at 860-561-8310 or email Robert.McCue@WestHartfordCT.Gov.

The masks are not among those that were recalled, the town said — they share the same lot number, but have a different serial number.

Officials said they're worn with straps that go over one's head, rather than behind their ears. They provide greater protection against the omicron variant of COVID-19 than traditional cloth face coverings, the town said.

"The mask provides a very close facial fit, thereby filtering 95% solid and liquid aerosols," the announcement reads. "The masks come individually wrapped and are foldable."
