Snowstorm Impacts In West Hartford, What You Need To Know
The winter's first major snowstorm has arrived and the town Tuesday has closed its libraries, senior centers and recreation sites.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Town officials early Tuesday afternoon announced that a parking ban in town due to the snowstorm has been lifted.
As a result, according to town officials, cars may park on the street and public works crews will continue to push back snow in places.
"Please use caution when parking and driving," wrote the town in an announcement at 12:06 p.m.

Anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of snow was expected to fall, which is short of the major storms of New England's past, but a pretty steep inch total by the winter of 2022-23's standards.
Town officials late Tuesday morning announced several facility closures related to the storm in the town, including: the Elmwood Community Center; the town's senior centers; the skating rink; aquatics center; Westmoor Park; all town libraries; MDC recreation areas; and food distribution from the food pantry.

The West Hartford Department of Public Works had announced a parking ban Monday, saying it would help the department "have a safe and efficient maintenance and clean-up operation."
Town officials Monday afternoon issued further information about its storm response.
"The department of public works is preparing for a winter storm that will bring 4-8 inches of snow to the area," wrote the town via social media. "The storm will begin tonight and last until early evening on Tuesday. "
During the parking ban, no on-street parking was allowed so that public works can remove snow from curb-to-curb.
Meanwhile, snow removal contractors are reminded not to push snow from driveways and private parking lots into the street.
Amid what has been an unusual winter of mild days and no snow, the local area prepared for the first major snow event of the season on the last two days of so-called "meteorological winter."
This is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's definitions of the seasons used to calculate weather statistics. Here, "winter" is from Dec. 1 to March 1.
Of course, the calendar says winter ends March 20, so there's still plenty of time for parking bans and cancelations.
In fact, West Hartford's DPW warned of another possible storm at week's end.
"Another system is expected to come through on Friday and continue into Saturday. Please keep sidewalks clear during these back-to-back storms," wrote the town.
