West Hartford Scout Troop Celebrates 60th Anniversary

Boy Scouts of America's Troop 146 recently marked 60 years with a birthday cake and party during its awards ceremony.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A local Boy Scout troop recently celebrated its 60th anniversary with a birthday cake and party during its mid-year awards ceremony.

Scout Troop 146 of West Hartford held the celebration at its "chartered organization," West Hartford United Methodist Church. (A chartered organization is a community group for which a boy scout troop volunteers.)

According to its website, over its 60 years, Troop 146 has had hundreds of boys join as members and 80 earn the rank of Eagle Scout — the highest achievement possible.

"Over the last two years, like many Scout troops, Troop 146 has met the challenge with virtual meetings and monthly outdoor events, including a 2021 in-person summer camp and outdoor program resulting in sustaining the full range of Scouting activities and skills while seeing new Scouts joining its ranks going forward," Troop 146 Scoutmaster Ron Ward said in a news release.

Troop 146 meets on Thursday evenings from September to June, and scouts attend summer camp at June Norcross Webster Scout Camp in Ashford. Additionally, the troop alternates between annual trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico and the Bahamas Seabase.
