Major Company Announces Plans To Shut Down Wethersfield Facility: WARN Notice

The company recently announced plans to "shut down all operations and close" its three facilities in Connecticut.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A solar energy company with offices in multiple states has announced plans to shut down its three facilities in Connecticut, including one in Wethersfield, within the coming weeks, according to a WARN notice sent Friday to the Connecticut Department of Labor.

In August, PosiGen Developer LLC notified the state DOL of plans to immediately implement permanent layoffs at its facilities in Shelton, Danbury and Wethersfield, with nearly 80 employees affected.

According to the notice sent Friday to the DOL, although the company was able to obtain some additional financing and is still actively seeking additional financing from its lender, "such financings only will permit the company to continue operations for a temporary period," at the end of which the company plans to close its Shelton, Danbury and Wethersfield facilities.

"The company no longer believes that it will be able to effectuate a sale of its remaining business in a manner that will provide for continued operations," Chief Administrative Officer John Truschinger wrote in the WARN notice. "As a result, the company now expects that it will terminate all of the remaining [Connecticut] employees during the period between Sept. 21, 2025, and Oct. 4, 2025."

A request for comment from PosiGen was not immediately returned Tuesday.

In addition to Connecticut, PosiGen also operates offices in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Louisiana.

According to the company's website, PosiGen "is working to implement solar power for all."

"We want solar to be affordable and easy to access, especially for underserved communities," the website reads. "By making solar more accessible through our solar leasing program, we are making it possible for families in these communities to invest in their homes, reduce energy costs and take steps toward a brighter future."
