Alert Issued After Coyote Spotted Inside Wethersfield Dog Park

The Town of Wethersfield is urging pet owners to be wary and to keep their dogs on a leash in public spaces.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Town officials issued a warning about coyotes in town on Friday.

According to the Town of Wethersfield, a coyote was seen in a local dog park, with officials "asking the community to stay cautious and keep pets close."

The town has a dog park located at 154 Prospect St. inside Mill Woods Park.

Because coyotes may become aggressive, especially to other dogs, the town urged folks to be wary.

"Please walk dogs on a leash and remain alert while enjoying outdoor spaces," wrote the town.

If one should encounter a coyote, they should make themselves appear large by waving their hands or act aggressively by throwing sticks or other objects, wrote the town.

In addition, they could make loud noises either by yelling, using an air horn, or similar, and slowly back away — never run.

Report any unusual or aggressive behavior to Wethersfield Animal Control.

"With awareness and simple precautions, we can help keep both residents and pets safe," wrote the town.
