Two USJ Tennis Players From Wethersfield Earn Academic Honors
The duo playing at the West Hartford university earned academic honors from the International Tennis Association.

WETHERSFIELD/WEST HARTFORD, CT — Two Wethersfield residents who are college tennis players at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford were honored recently for their prowess on the court and in the classroom.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team was recognized by the International Tennis Association (ITA) and was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the 2022-23 academic year, it was announced by the organization July 12.

Additionally, five women's tennis student-athletes — including two from Wethersfield — were individually honored for their hardwork in the classroom this past year and earned the designation of ITA Scholar-Athlete.
Honored were: Senior Julia Michaud (Bristol), junior Kathleen Gilland (Wethersfield), sophomore Jenna Griffith (Higganum) and freshmen Gia Alvarez (Meriden) and Liliana Garcia (Wethersfield).

In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, USJ student-athletes had to:
- Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
- Be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
Overall, 1,204 Division III women's tennis student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 160 Division III women's tennis programs were awarded the ITA All-Academic Team distinction from across the nation.
USJ was one of just two teams from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) who earned ITA All-Academic Team honors accompanying Simmons University in Boston.
