American Legion, Wilton Library Coordinate on Memorial Day Display

If you are looking for ways to educate your children about the real meaning of Memorial Day, or about American history in general, the Wilton Library has a new display designed in coordination with Wilton's James B. Whipple American Legion Post 86.

The table, which is situated across from the circulation desk, is equipped with patriotic reading material and pamphlets about how to properly display a flag.

"This is the first of many initiatives that will link the American Legion and the library," Bill Glass, Post 86's vice commander told Patch. "We plan to coordinate with library for all patriotic holidays this year, including the Fourth of July, Flag Day and Veterans Day."

For starters, legion will be sponsoring an Author's Talk on June 3 featuring Brian Castner, who served three tours of duty in the Middle East and is the author "The Long Walk: A Story of War and the Life That Follows."

The organization will also host a Flag Day Celebration on June 14 where legion members will donate a flag to the library and teach children how to respect and display the American flag.

Glass is also one of the Post 86 members that serves on the town's Memorial Day Parade Committee.
