Anita Designs Brings a Different Kind of 'Organic Product' to Farmers' Markets

Anita Sobelson offers a different kind of product than many vendors at the Wilton Farmers' Market: items made of cloth.

Sobelson, the owner of Weston-based Anita Designs, sells handmade linens, bags and wallets at the Wilton Farmers' Market every few weeks as a guest.

"The linen is basically what I'm bringing," Sobelson said.

She makes her most popular items, towels, out of a European fabric. After washing the towels, Sobelson said she uses "fabric paint and rubber stamps to stamp the design on them."

Anita Designs can also be found at the Rowayton Farmers' Market every Friday and Weston Farmers' Markets every Saturday.

Sobelson, who moved to Connecticut in 1978 from Denver, Colo., said her favorite parts of coming to farmers' markets are "just being able to connect with people" and "being outside."

She believes Anita Designs brings something unique, yet fitting, to the markets.

"I kind of like to think my product is a very organic product (that) fits in well," Sobelson said.

The Wilton Farmers' Market is held every Wednesday from 12:30 to 5 p.m., June 5 through Sept. 25, at the Wilton Historical Society, located at 224 Danbury Rd.
