Carp Enlisted For Kent Pond Clean-Up: Report

Neighbors hope the carp will help reduce vegetation and invasive species in the pond.

WILTON, CT — Around 168 grass carp were released in Kent Pond in an effort to reduce vegetation growth in the pond, reports the Norwalk Hour. The carp are ten to 12 inches long and the town could see a difference in the pond in up to a year.

Jackie Algon of the Wilton Conservation Commission said invasive plant species have kept animals from making a home at Kent Pond. The carp were also recently released in Henderson Pond.

Kent Pond is managed by the town, and the Friends of Kent Pond raised $3,000 to cover the cost of the carp.
