Four Father's Day Gift Ideas for the Tool Man in Your Life

If your Dad is anything like mine, the first place you'll look for a Father's Day gift is at the local hardware store. If my Dad's not drilling, hammering, weeding or grilling, it's only because he's sick in bed from the flu.

But if you've managed to stay out of hardware stores over the years, you may need some guidance as to what to get for the special dad in your life. So Patch recently visited Wilton Hardware on River Road to check out the best of the best in manly tools and gagdets.

"Nothing says 'I love you Dad' like a grill," sales associate Robin McCready told Patch.

McCready said that you can't go wrong with a Weber grill and recommended the "Spirit SP-310," which has three stainless steel burners and 529 square inches of cooking area for $549.

Owner Tom Sato said that another sure bet is the classic power drill, but ones that run on lithium batteries specifically because they maintain their speed right up until the power runs out. He recommended the Black & Decker or Dewalt brands, which start at $40 each.

He added that weed whackers are another classic tool that any Dad will appreciate. "What guy doesn't like whacking down some weeds?" Sato asked.

If you're looking to impress the dad that seems to have it all, both McCready and Sato recommend an oscillating tool, which does the job of numerous tools.

"You can cut out a piece of a wall easily, pull up tiles and sand corners with it," Sato said. "It's only been around for about two years, so whenever guys come in and see it in action, they wonder how they ever survived without it."

Master Mechanic and Dremel are the top brands, Sato said, and they run between $50 and $100.
